Reuse & Refill - Plastic Reboot

Refill & Reuse Systems

Executed by Perpetual, Plastic Reboot is bringing together practitioners, policymakers, and technical experts to accelerate the shift from single-use disposables to reuse systems.

Why is Plastic Reboot Working on Refill & Reuse?

Widespread adoption of reuse systems can substantially lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduce plastic waste, and decrease resource consumption. In addition to environmental and social benefits, refill and reuse systems redistribute value from the extraction and manufacturing stages of the package lifecycle to across the entire lifecycle of a product; the Ellen MacArthur Foundation estimates that replacing 20% of single-use plastic packaging with reusable alternatives could represent a $10 billion economic opportunity.

To achieve the environmental, social, and economic benefits that refill and reuse provides, reuse systems must scale globally. This requires supportive policies, innovative business models, and investment in supportive infrastructure.

By extending the life of materials and reducing reliance on single-use plastics, refill and reuse systems can significantly curb plastic pollution, conserve natural resources, and foster sustainable economic growth. Implementing effective, scalable reuse solutions is not just an environmental imperative - it is a path toward a more resilient and sustainable future for both people and the planet.

From Start to Success: The Refill & Reuse Systems Handbook

The Refill and Reuse Systems Handbook is a practical resource for anyone exploring or implementing refill and reuse systems. It provides the knowledge, tools, and guidance needed to move from early exploration to real-world implementation.

The 5-Part Primer introduces foundational concepts, system components, and enabling conditions needed to design effective refill and reuse systems.

The Step-by-Step Guide provides structured guidance for designing and implementing reuse interventions, from concept through launch.

The Refill & Reuse System Dictionary defines key terminology and system elements to support consistent language across interest holders.
